One half of your life will be dedicated to work – maybe more. That’s a lot of your precious time.
So don’t waste it, find a job you love.
Hang on…isn’t there a quote about this? Oh yeah, ‘Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’ said Mark Twain. Or was it Confucius?
Luckily I did a job I loved, as an Art Director and Creative Director, for many, many years.
But doing a job you love isn’t just about what you’re doing, it’s also about where you’re doing it. I worked at many great agencies, but did I love working at all of them? No, of course not.
I’ve no doubt that as a creative, you’re doing something you love. You’re creating and getting paid for it.
How beautiful is that?
But what’s just as important is where you’re creating that great work. A safe, encouraging and supportive environment allows everyone to be their best. And do their best.
And that’s not just creatives by the way, it’s everyone.
The environment is both a physical one and a mental one, whether you’re in the office or working from home. You could even argue that where you work is more important than what you do.
If you love what you do, you’ll be very good at it. But if you can add ‘doing what you love’, to ‘loving where you work’, you’ll be better than good. You’ll be great.
And that’s where and when the magic happens.
And we all love a bit of magic, don’t we?
