BITS AND BOBS you may or may not
find interesting.
Absolutely NOT.
Never in a million years would I do that. It has no place in the lives of creative recruiters and if you do come across a creative recruiter using it, run a thousand miles from them.
Creatives should be judged on their work, their portfolio, NOT their cv. All a cv does is tell me where you’ve been, not how good you are.
I’ve been on the end of many recruiters using software to scan my cv and determine whether I’m right for a role, and it is absolutely scandalous.
So I know how it feels. And it AIn't nice.
Which is why AI has no place in my business.
I think the first thing to do is to determine what ghosting is. And my opinion is based on my experience as both a creative and now a recruiter.
Doesn’t mean to say I’m right, but it’s an honest opinion.
As an art director, I was ghosted (like lots of you) by recruiters many times and it just isn’t acceptable. It has NO place in our industry.
It’s simply very disrespectful.
What ghosting isn’t, is being ignored after you’ve applied for a role. A recruiter can get over 500 applicants (and more) per role and if they’ve got 5-10 roles on with similar amounts of applications, that’s anywhere between 2500 and 5000 roles!
So it is impossible to respond to every single person, it’s just not feasible, which I’m sure you’ll agree.
Now, if I get in touch with you after you’ve sent in your application and we chat, and we both think I should send you over to the agency, I now have your back 100%. I can GUARANTEE that I will get back to you as soon as I hear back from the agency. This can sometimes take weeks, even longer (wrong I know but it happens) but as soon as I do, I’ll get back to you.
Sometimes there is no feedback, just a no and sometimes that’s all I can give you. But I will NEVER just disappear and ignore you once I have sent you over for a role.
So, what I call ghosting is when you’ve had a conversation with a recruiter and been sent over for the role and they suddenly disappear never to be seen again. This is rude, disrespectful and downright unacceptable.
And what is even worse, is when you get to a second, third, even fourth interview, even going into their offices, only to never hear from them again.
The good news is, this won’t happen here.
That is my intention, yes.
I successfully freelanced on and off as an Art Director and Creative Director for over 20 years so I know the market and how it works, very well. Whilst at The Jefferson Group, I started the freelance ‘desk’ and I was very successful, placing Creative Teams, Designers and Strategists.
My aim is to work across both perm and freelance roles.
My ‘speciality’ will always be creative, as you’d expect after over 30 years as one myself, and that will be my focus. But you don’t work in the advertising world for that long and not get to understand just how all the other roles work.
I worked very closely with Client Services, from Account Managers, Directors and GADS to Business Directors, Strategists and Project Managers.
So I have a very good idea about these roles and what makes someone successful. Or unsuccessful. So Love Your Job will also be working with agencies on these briefs, if not now, further down the line.
After all, whether you’re a creative, Strategist, PM or Account Exec, EVERYONE should be doing a job they love.
Values are very important and determine what sort of person or brand we are. Values are what attract us to each other, or indeed what repels us. Those closest to us or who have been friends with us a long time will generally have very similar values.
Those who know me won’t be surprised by my values, which are of course LYJ’s values. If these values align with yours, there’s a good chance we’ll work very well together.

Yes I am! As well as a qualified Personal Performance Coach and NLP Practitioner.
I started on my journey into the personal development world in 2012 and it changed my life. Spending a few years completing these Diploma’s while still being extremely busy as an Art Director took a lot of hard work, but it has been so worthwhile.
From walking on hot coals at Tony Robbins' UPW 4 day event to being on the ‘Fire Team’ for many years helping others do the same (and walking the hot coals another 4 or 5 times!).
From attending the ‘Enlightened Warrior’ Camp in Spain to attending many more events in London and joining the biggest personal development community in Europe (The YES Group), where I went on to be Vice Chair and MC for two years.
While at the YES Group I joined Basket Brigade, an organisation that creates baskets of food (love and hope) and feeds those in need at Christmas. I have raised over £25k for them personally and am proud to say it is now a fully fledged charity of which I am a Trustee.
Please check us out at basketbrigade.org.uk (designed recently by yours truly) and maybe you’ll join us on December 23rd one year. And if you can’t make it, why not make a donation 🙂
